Instrumented Office Chair With Low-Cost Plastic Optical Fiber Sensors for Posture Control and Work Conditions Optimization

People spend more and time sitting this habit has been shown to cause spine pathologies. Thus, the scientific community industry have become interested in instrumented chairs development detect incorrect user postures. In work we present implementation of invisibles non-intrusive plastic optical fiber sensor cells monitor posture evaluate ergonomic behavior a seated person. The low-cost (POF) based sensing devices developed work, were implemented an office chair, workers throughout their day. addition sensors, Android PC software applications developed, provide real feedback alerts whenever inadequate is detected, or seating position same for long time. proposed approach was evaluated study involving six users, results show that it can user’s with 96.6% accuracy.
